MLB Network, is dropping in on the second inning. I haven't heard Gubi and Vic in it seems like ages. (Last Wednesday.)

Gubi says Meyer is in for 70 to 80 pitches.

That's in interesting spin on the placement of the outfield in the batting order. 7, 8 and 9 are filling the 7-8-9 spots in the batting order. LOL. Poetry in management. Or in Gubi's analysis.

I haven't looked at the rest of today's schedule, but this is quite a lengthy "live look-in" of this game on MLB Network. They've been with the Angels and A's for 3 innings already. Not complaining. I'm in MLBTV's blackout zone for games involving Oakland.

Tried that at the beginning and got redirected to the A's radio with the blackout notation. Switched to KLAA.

Four walks now for Meyer, 54 pitches in 2.2 innings.

Meyer has good stuff, throws hard, good knuckle curve but is wild. I think he is showing some promise.

He walks himself into trouble and strikes his way out. I remember Nolan doing similar things. Ryan would walk the bases loaded and then strike out the side to get out of it.

Pretty soon, this A's rookie will be known to Angels fans as Cy Cotton.

Meyer has some good looking movement on his pitches but as Victor and Gubi have pointed out his front side is flying way open. 

 

Somebody discussed in another thread that his mechanics seem high maintenance and I can agree with that. It doesn't look like he has very repeatable mechanics. But if he can find some control he has the stuff to be a top of the rotation pitcher.

30 of Meyer's 57 pitches have been strikes. 36 of Cotton's first 45 were strikes.

Not too bad for his first start. 1 hit no runs a runner left on second with 1 out in the forth. 4 walks, and 5 strike outs. He he cans somehow gain more control he could become a top of the rotation type pitcher. So far it makes that trade of Santiago look good.

Now Alvarez is doing worse on 5 pitches than Meyer did he 3.1 innings.
