Other than for defense, I don't understand the logic of putting Ortega instead of Marte in LF.

To see if there is any hope for Ortega.  Marte will be on the opening day roster next year, baring some miraculous acquisition or trade.  Or to get a left handed bat in instead of righty Marte against Neal.  Or perhaps Marte doesn't feel well after getting whacked in the back last night.

We've more than established Ortega can't hit at this level. Like anyone he'll have good games here or there (which I'm including for when he inevitably hits three homers tonight) but his AAA numbers aren't great and his MLB numbers are terrible. He doesn't have a future in LF at this level, whereas Marte might.

The logic would be that until June, Marte had never played left field and he was put there only in an emergency. He has played 708 games at 3B out of the 768 he has played at all minor and winter league levels. Marte is a third baseman. That's the logic..

The better logic is that his future with the Angels in most likely in LF....and he can hit....unlike our LF conga line of Ortega, Buss, Robinson, Cunningham, Nava, Gentry, etc....
