Any car detailing hobbyists?

No. All you would do is ruin the clay clogging it with large amounts of sediment.

And probably scratch your paint in the process, too.

In addition to adhering to contaminants, the clay is slightly abrasive all by itself.  When you embed all kinds of dirt and other crap (like Blarg described) you end up with the equivalent of a glob of sandpaper.  That's why you frequently fold the clay over, and use lots of lube, either soapy water or a detailing spray.

First off your local car wash is a paint scratcher even if it is a "hand wash." They are about getting cars done quickly and if you go through a brush wash that is just saying,  please add 1,000 scratches to the paint by grinding the dirt across the surface from a thousand other dirty cars that went before.

Second, hahahahaaa that the car wash uses any real wax. Most water down the wax they apply so much it is just cloudy water and not even deionized water but tap water through a rusty pipe.

You might as well just wait for a rainstorm for a better finish.

So in theory one could use a drive thru car wash, clay and then use the car wash again with the full liquid wax option?

All you need to wash your car ever is water and a sponge. Do that enough (once every 2 weeks to a month) and your car will look great.

Wax it once every couple years, and I would not recommend using an orbital waxer you're going screw up your cars paint by over doing it.

If you do wax I would recommend doing it by hand using Meguiers or NuFinish. The clay bar is like, way overdoing it brah, that's for like deeply damaged paint jobs that you're trying to rectify from the dead.

Also, I wouldn't listen to a goddamn thing Blarg says, he's senile and has a tiny wiener.
