Just watched Jeff Mathis bloop a single off Jerome Williams. Williams is the guy the Cards run out to the bump when they're behind 8-0 and there's 5 innings left in the game. Jeffy-Jeff has 2 hits today.

I really wish we were in a position to trade Hector, but we aren't.  We have 3 starters next year.  So we bring up Nate Smith to make four, then we will only have to sign 4-5 starters in the off season.  That's a very tall order.

Why does that really matter? It's not like we're going to contend anyway.

Because you need starting pitchers and signing five would be expensive and nearly impossible.

No, it wouldn't. We would need to look at waivers, non-tenders, buy-low guys and so on. It's not worth keeping Hector for an extra season and potentially missing out on a couple of good prospects just to avoid that.

I need to research how many playoff teams have excellent bullpens that need a starting pitcher that can only give them five, maybe six innings.
