Rosenthal further reported that Sale was frustrated with the team valuing marketing over wins and losses.

Interesting that he thinks that the uni will have that much an effect on the chance of winning the game  just because he doesn't prefer them.  This just screams primma donna.

i'll admit i'm a bit partial to this uniform. a guy i grew up with (he lived right down the street from me) played with the chisox for a couple of years - mike colbern - as a catcher, and he came up in 78/79. this was the uniform he wore.

I was fond of the uniform too. There was nothing like it in the majors, and Mr. Sale's opinion aside, the consensus among the players was that it was the most comfortable uniform they had ever worn - presumably because the jersey wasn't form fitting and the shirttail wasn't tucked in. I have a cap and a replica batting helmet of this style in the closet.

From the same card as your friend, I ran into a guy after a game at Arlington who went to school with Ross Baumgarten.

Not sorry, f**k those uniforms. You get used to wearing what you're wearing, the dude wants to win games.

I gotta say, I'd be greatly pissed off if you ask me to go out there and compete in a uniform that feels different from what I'm used to.

Sure he didn't need to cut the thing up, but give me a break. This wasn't just color or logo finagling, this was going to be a completely different feel. For a position player, sure, you can kinda get away with it, but for a pitcher? Man there are so many things that can screw with a pitcher on that mound. Having to be concerned with the uniform you have to wear? Irresponsible on the part of the decision maker who said "go" on this idea.

I don't need no stinkin' throwbacks to enjoy a ballgame either.
