Felon voting rights

I don't get this, does Iowa think that the felons are going to rise up and vote a mass murderer into congress?

I think someone should have the opportunity to get their voting rights back once they can demonstrate that their felonious ways were a one time fluke. If their law states that convicted felons lose their voting rights then the individual may want to reconsider committing their crime to begin with. Mistakes do happen and some people do get their shit together so second chances are a good thing in these cases. Then there are people who are just pieces of shit. F**k them

Next step.  Kick the felons out of the country and take their citizenship.  How many people would reconsider committing a crime if the penalty wasn't club fed but banishment into Iraq.

This country as a whole loves suppressing voters, it gives the politicians more power over their election.

I can understand certain dangerous felons losing gun ownership rights but there's no compelling public interest served in taking anyone's voting rights.

That part is easy when you consider the rather disproportionate high minority populations in prison. Pure voter demographics.  Plus it sounds good to the constituents.

The constitution, even considering the 14th and 15th amendments, is rather vague on if this would be allowable.

Denying voting rights should be the hardest thing for any elected body to do. 

 I'm ever denied the right to vote I'll cite my elementary school history lessons and refuse to be taxed without representation.

In most states, the loss of voting rights isn't permanent. It is only for the duration of the sentence.

I don't give a shit about felon voting rights. Far more important things to spend my energy worrying about. If people really want to vote, they shouldn't commit a felony(ies).
