Are the Angels as bad as their record?

I would say we're in 90% of the games and then lose them. Bullpen is horrid (Salas, Alvarez, Guerra) or injured. Starters are injured. I think one more reliable bat (around Escobar, Trout, Calhoun, Pujols) could shore up the order. Cron is too wishy-washy and we don't know about Marte yet.

Am I being idealistic?

Yes. This team sucks.

AGREED...with only a few legit players, a horrible pen and assemblage of injured or soft throwing or inconsistent starters = terrible team.

But look on the bright side - maybe a top 5 draft pick next year!

They said Heaney didn't show improvement and would be re-evaluated in 6 weeks.Richards showed some improvement and would be re-evaluated in 4 weeks.

Heaney in 2 weeks and Richards in 6 weeks.

Let's see here...

Angels are 9th in the AL in runs scored

Angels are 12th in the AL in team ERA(10th in SP ERA and 10th in bullpen ERA)

So yeah, they really are this bad. Going into the season, it shouldn't have been much of a surprise that the offense and the bullpen would stink considering what they entered the season with. The only positive thing about this team was it's young starting pitching and SP depth. Well, all that pitching is hurt so now they're left with an awful rotation to go along with the 2 things that were already likely to be an issue heading into the year. What you're left with is a team that can't hit, can't pitch, and can't protect a lead. Hard to win with that recipe

Yes, they are as bad as their record indicates.

They have an entire starting 5 on the DL which is replaced by a hodgepodge of broken pieces, a line-up full of AAA and AAAA players, and a BP that has maybe one or two reliable options depending on that day's game.

Even with how bad the 2013 team was, you had some hope that some guys might develop into something.

Now?  You know guys like Cron, Giavotella, and Santiago are what they are and probably won't get better.  You knows guys like Marte, Pettit, Choi and Ortega are filler meant to complete a line-up but will not provide more than league average performance on a good day.  You know guys like Morin, Salas, Alvarez, Mahle, Guerra, etc, etc, etc will blow up at some point and there is nothing pending to replace them.  You know Wilson, Weaver, and Pujols are done and are just waiting for their contracts to expire.

It is the emptiest of the empty and there is nowhere to go but up

Entering the season the Angels needed everything to go their way if they were to have a good year. As we all know everything went bad and we've been left with a team whose pitching staff has been devastated. I can't imagine many teams could survive whats happened to the Angels.

Not much more to be said. Looking forward to 2019 and re-signing Trout. New manager too! (unless Arte extends him again)

This is the end result of when we called Arte cheap. He went out and got us Vernon Wells, Albert Pujols, C J Wilson and Josh Hamilton. Arte was stupid for giving Scioscia so much power and handing GM positions to people with very little experience. This current team was mostly constructed Dipoto. It's a really bad team and needs to be dismantled completely. When we talk about building a team around Trout, this is not what Trout expected when he signed his current contract. And, something fishy is going on with Escobar either on or off the field. Dudes been traded 6 times and we are listening...... so he must have some issues.

It's time to sell before the deadline frenzy. There are teams on the bubble that can make a run so there will be a market for some of our players. This will be the true beginning of Eppler's long term plan. If he doesn't make any moves then prepare to watch the same old team rolling out the rest of the season.

A lot of truth to all that....But the problem is that none of our "tradeable" guys have much value, except Trout, Calhoun and Simmons, maybe Shoe right now.....Street could get you a fair prospect maybe, same with Escobar, same with Santiago...ok prospects but not like a Hamels trade last year.....We are really stuck in purgatory and it's going to take some real luck and outside the box thinking to dig out of this....

Well for the average fan that attends games at the stadium it's all about Mike Trout. It's not about the standings. We can suck for quite a while until a lot of money comes off the books because Mike Trout keeps us in many games. We are in last place and the Trout jerseys are still flying off the racks at the team store. That's Arte's targeted market. Now for our exclusive @ngelswin family it's different. We have high expectations each and every season. We believe that we are an elite franchise and deserve nothing but a winner. We play the part of a GM daily and we have all of the answers. We are now suffering from our own arrogance with the "we don't rebuild, we retool" approach. We are the Titanic, the unsinkable ship.....
