Yeah, 2006 wasnt near as bad. The mlb team faltered, but it was kind of exciting because we had the next wave coming up. The guys you mentioned, plus howie, aybar, morales, kotchman etc were enough to keep everybody excited for the next year.

And they had Jeff Weaver on the team as their "Chacin" before trading him to St. Louis.

If I recall Jered once hit 95 mph on a pitch in 2006, 10 years later he can't even hit 85.

The pressors were packed with Angels fans all filled with joy and excitement. All hook, line and sinker moments.

Except for Claude, he got no satisfaction, but he does get satisfaction out of telling people they were wrong for hoping our free agents would perform.

It sucks that a bunch of guys are injured, but imagine if our SP and offense were healthy yet we were relying on this bullpen to win games?

Well if everyone was healthy we'd have guys like Santiago and Skaggs in the pen.

Injuries wouldn't be as bad if they had something called Minor League Depth so I put alot of the blame on bad drafts, bad international presence & Artie Moreno. If they had the minor league depth they had in 2002 to 2009 they could probally finish 83-79.
Remember when the 2006 Angels had a young Jered Weaver, Joe Saunders in the minors as pitching depth ? They also had Napoli in the minors who got called up that year.

Remember how Napoli wasn't even considered a prospect back then. I think he's the last player the Angels have called up who I had no idea who he was (and wasn't instantly sent back and never seen again)

For this season's problems? Arte and injuries are mostly to blame. Bad drafts/scouting and complete neglect of the international market has been going on for years and the state of the farm reflects that

Well not just this season, but everything leading up to this season..

In his first MLB at bat he mashed a HR off Verlander. While His minor league numbers were pretty good, it seems they downplayed him cause of his age as he missed alot of games early in his development ?

the only answer is artie. every other choice is a subset of his choices and leadership or a product of happenstance.

injuries? sure enough, but they happen. they made a bad team worse this year.

everything else from int'l presence, draft, FA signings is all a product of artie's leadership. it's a fine line from an active owner, to a meddlesome one. artie crossed over a while ago and we weren't aware of it.

yeah dude.  162 game season with 98 wins and it was all smoke and mirrors.

A lot went right that season. I remember them winning a lot of games that they probably shouldn't have won. Sometimes the ball bounces in your direction. But they were exposed in the playoffs and their 2014 success was short lived. When you had the best record in baseball and failed to advance that should've motivated them to have an unfinished business mentality going into the next season. They didn't and they proved that their 2014 success was smoke and mirrors AND unsustainable.

This is false.

They were unstoppable until they clinched and sat some players, Hamilton came back and was dogshit, the entire team went cold. The pitching was fantastic against the Royals other the game 3 shitshow by C.J. Wilson.

Why didn't they win 98 games in 2015? Because the core of the 2014 team was not structured to win year after year and lacked the sustainability of the 2002-2009 teams.
