Now the trades to get under the cap for Hampus should be coming in....

If the Ducks trade Fowler, they are going to regret it.  He was the only one that was able to get out of the zone easily last night.  Hopefully Depres got pulled last night, not because he sucked or was injured, but was about to be traded.

Actually Fowler looked really bad especially in the first period.  I kept thinking he was hurting his trade value.

Very happy with the Rakell deal, that seems about right.

But yeah, Lindholm is still needed badly. If Fowler can be dealt for a top six winger that would be ideal, but if it has to be picks or prospects then it is probably still what needs to be done. I can't see anyone taking Despres' contract willingly.

On another note, what was with Bieksa trying to be much more aggressive on the attack last night? It just looked awkward. I assume it is a coaching directive but it really looked like a 'square peg for a round hole' situation.

Looks like we won't be seeing Despres for awhile anyway...

Murray sounded very glum about Simon Despres, who didn't play third last night. Referenced issues he had last year, which were concussive.

Plan is to have Despres see specialists. Wasn't a hit or fall. "Something’s wrong here and we've got to get to the bottom of it here."

For all the heat the NFL takes on concussions, hockey seems to get a free pass. Very scary and I feel bad for Despres. Hopefully this isn't something that's going to bother him his entire life.

I thought Fowler looked absolutely horrid last night. Hopefully Lindholm is locked down soon.

I really likes the way Getzlaf played last night. We had some quality opportunities that just didn't go in. Hopefully we don't start as slow as we did last year.

@Angels_Make_Me_Drink I really don't think Hockey is getting a free pass.  It's just that it's hockey, and not in the news as much as football.  The big guns in the hockey world, and by big I mean the poster children for concussions, Kariya, La Fontaine, not sure if Lindros was part of it, came out and I don't know if they went as far as suing the NHL, but came out and sharply criticised the NHL.  I think as far as this issue goes, the NHL is far and away making better progress than the NFL.  Refs are given much more leeway in that any contact to the head of any player gets called.  Where as the NFL, it really only seems to matter for QB's.  Also you have protocols in place where if someone has a hint of a concussion they pull him from games, and new this year, if an NHL official thinks a person is showing signs, they will pull them from the game.

I think Depres is done.  I think he had 2 concussions last season, and he starts off this season concussed.  If I read some of the articles right, they don't even recall him getting hit to cause it.  That's the scariest thing.  LTIR, or retirement.

Yup.  How does LTIR work in regard to the cap?

takes it right off. so if we LTIR thompson and despres we have room for lindholm without needing to trade anyone.

but we could also play the BS game the kings and hawks like to play. someone mysteriously goes on LTIR, so they trade for someone at the deadline using that cap space. once the post season starts, the cap isn't enforced. an magically, said injured player heals and is ready to go for the playoffs. and since the cap isn't enforced, you are able to spend over it the price of the acquired player.

too early to play that game for us obviously, but f*ck the kings and hawks.

With how bad they look when its Lindholm they are missing. More reason they keep him & try to trade Fowler.
