I was surprised to find out you're correct. He has never used a position player to pitch.

Without looking it up, does anyone remember the last time an Angels' position player pitched in a game?

Chili Davis threw 2 scoreless innings against Texas in June 1993 about 2 weeks after Rene Gonzalez threw a scoreless inning for the California Angels and manager Buck Rodgers.

Think we almost saw Brendan Ryan come in a few weeks ago in Texas, but the Angels rallied for something like 5 runs and got back in the game.

Bill Rigney used Wonderful Willie Smith in 15 games as a pitcher -- including one start -- and 118 as an outfielder in 1964. His ERA was 2.84 in 31.2 innings. He appeared as a pitcher during parts of three of his nine MLB seasons.

Probably the silliest complaint so far in the Scioscia era, that he uses pitcher to pitch instead of some utility fielder.

So, to clarify, our DH used to pitch better than our bullpen.
