The Angels will call up left-hander David Huff to start Tuesday against the Yankees.

Huff signed a minor league deal with the Angels last month and owns a 5.40 ERA and 11/4 K/BB ratio in 11 2/3 innings over three starts with Triple-A Salt Lake. The 31-year-old has a 5.08 ERA over 55 starts and 63 relief appearances in the majors.

Just checked, Smith threw 8 Innings on Friday allowing 2 hits, 2 runs no walks and 7 Ks.

 

Why not him? At least there's a chance he won't be shit.

Because he just pitched on Friday.  He'd be going on 3 days' rest.

I would assume because they want an open spot on the 40 man roster. They can DFA Huff after his start. They couldn't do that with Smith.

There are 5 starting pitchers on the Dl and you are questioning if running a young arm out there on 3 days rest would be bad?

David Huff - former 39th overall pick in 2006.  31 yo. lefty from huntington beach, ca

fastball, cutter, changeup.  sometimes a curve or slider.  90-93 fastball.  Looks like he can crank it up to 95 in relief.
