CJ Wilson has tendinitis, is shut down again

Recommended Posts

Although I have nothing but inferences, statements, and blurbs from the media regarding Wilson I just feel like he's dialing it in and doing his best to stick around Southern CA. Last year around the same time (trade deadline) he declared to management he was injured, some of his teammates didn't believe him: http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/eye-on-baseball/25256944/several-angels-teammates-skeptical-of-cj-wilsons-elbow-injury and in Spring Training of last year he declared that his shoulder would be a problem: http://www.latimes.com/sports/angels/la-sp-angels-20160306-story.html. He's taking a Hamilton route and riding out his contract I'd be surprised if he returns before the trade deadline. This way he doesn't have to be traded and he can pitch the rest of the way to his next contract with the Giants, Dodgers or Padres.

Ha. That intersection is five minutes from my house. Not every day you see a picture of Perth on AngelsWin.

Anyway, this sucks with CJ but it isn't exactly unpredictable. Had he come back there was every chance we could have flipped him for a decent prospect at the deadline. Now it feels like we're destined to pay out the rest of his contract without him pitching here again before watching him sign a cheap contract with someone else and being frustratingly good.

I think this is close, but my take is that he's actually injured.  not to the point where he can't pitch if he wanted to, but just enough to make him think that if he did pitch, he might not pitch well and decrease his value as well as also increase his risk of further injury.  Instead, he's the guy with the 3.89 era a year ago that's gonna be proclaimed fully healthy going into free agency.  He might even pitch sometime in September just to show teams that he's good.  Then he'll get a nice little 2yr deal or maybe 1 with an option year.  It's kinda like the Mark Twain quote 'better to remain silent and let people think you a fool then to speak and remove all doubt'

I checked Twitter and sure enough,  this was reported after the game.  This wasn't mentioned during the broadcast. Next week, we'll find out if it is just pain or if there is structural damage.

It was reported this spring he was changing his throwing motion or his delivery after elbow surgery, and then he got shoulder tendonitis.  So he was shut down.   Now toward the end of rehab the tendonitis is back.

Would he have tendonitis if he hadn't changed his mechanics?

But he was injured and had surgery. See you can't just say I'm hurting and doctors cut you open and start removing pieces of bone. It doesn't work that way.
