Simmons to the DL; will require thumb surgery

"While an estimate of Simmons’ absence has yet to be reported, there’s little doubt that he’ll miss a significant period of time. For a Halos club that’s been hit hard by injuries and is already five games under .500, it’s a major blow.

Notably, fellow middle infielder Jed Lowrie required what appears to be the very same procedure last year. His surgery took place in late April, and he did not return until the very end of July."

Holy hell. Pennington and Giavotella in the same lineup for three months? Bloody hell.

How is Cowart going at 2B at AAA? And Kubitza? I know Cowart can't hit and Kubitza isn't much better but they're still sure to provide more offensively than Pennington.

Honestly, as much as Simmons has done or hasn't done for the Angels thus far.. it's not a huge loss. Minor at best.

Simmons >>>>>>>>> Pennington and Giavotella, who we're going to see much more of as a result.

Only a minor loss because the Angel's chances of competing for a title are slim to none, you mean? I don't see how losing Simmons is only a minor loss at best otherwise.
