Swisher has really declined over the past several seasons....which is too bad, he actually seems like a cool dude and a nice addition to the clubhouse.

I dont understand that move. He hits, he fields;  two things that TB needs. They never score enough and they have pitchers that generate ground balls.

Loney has steeply declined the last three years:

 

2013: .299/.348/.430, 2.6 WAR

2014: .290/.336/.380, 0.8 WAR

2015: .280/.322/.357, -1.3 WAR

 

Pretty much all he can do now is hit for a decent average, but the trend is clear.

i've said it before and i'll say it again now, WAR is close to a complete bs statistic. fWAR is a bs statistic.

 

i'm all for metrics, and then some, but WAR? what is it good for? absolutely nothing.

i'm not advocating that the halos sign him, but i can't really think of a team that doesn't need a player who hits for a decent avg., gets on base, and fields well.

Took awhile to get to your point... I don't see how anyone can say Loney gets on base or fields well. He hits for an OK average, but he doesn't walk a lot. He's above average defensively, for a first basemen.
