Author W.P. Kinsella, whose well-received baseball novel “Shoeless Joe” was adapted into the iconic film “Field of Dreams,” has died at age 81.

According to multiple reports, the Canadian-born writer ended his own life under the country’s medically assisted-dying law. Canada is one of the few countries where doctors can legally help sick people die.

Padres GM suspended 30 games after MLB probe into Red Sox trade

First time I can remember a GM being suspended. Apparently there is also an undisclosed fine levied against the Pads. Lee Hacksaw Hamilton is still broadcasting in SD? There's a name from the past ..

Todd Hutcheson had been the Padres’ athletic trainer for 18 years, but the Padres replaced him in February with a new department leader, Mark Rogow, who had previously worked with the U.S. Department of Defense.

In the midst of the worst team pitching season in a while (209 HRs allowed, 5.10 ERA), the Twins have one bright spot: Erv.

11th best AL ERA at 3.38, and solid 1.22 WHIP

Every other Twins starter has a 5.00+ ERA.

Berrios takes the prize.  12 starts, only 4 innings/start, 1.99 WHIP, and 8.88 ERA.

Erv hasn't pitched like he has, since 2013 for KC.

I thought Target Field was a bit pitching friendly.

Crazy stat:  Fourteen AL teams are only some .75 apart in team ERA, yet the Twins ERA is .60 worst than the 14th best AL ERA.   Nolasco thanks the heavens every day that he doesn't pitch for the woeful defense Twins anymore.

The Twins are the poster kids for why defense matters...

Not particularly a Dodger fan, but the ending of yesterday's game was classic. Last home game for Vin Scully, and some guy named Charlie Culbertson (do I even have the spelling correct?) hits a walk-off home run with two outs in the 10th inning to give them the division title, and this was just seconds before the Giants lost their game down in San Diego. The magic number had been 1, so the Dodgers actually won the division on their own, moments before the Giants would have given it to them by default.

Corey Seager had tied the game in the bottom of the 9th with a two-out home run after Kenley Jansen blew the save.

Blanton got the win.

Just total madness.
