Since Alvarez is young and a former starter I think it's only fair you look at his numbers from last year in the bullpen, which I think was a 108 ERA+.

I like this signing a lot. You get a veteran reliever on a Minor League deal. Cotts is primarily a fastball/slider guy so the opportunity to bring him in as a LOOGY to the Major League team makes a lot of sense. He actually doesn't do to bad against right-handed hitters who tend to have better on-base numbers against him than lefties do.

I think what Epples is doing with the pen is just as good as bringing in a bunch of established MLB arms.

Relievers can be inconsistent from year to year. Chances are at least 1-2 of these guys will come up and be successful.

If nothing else, it's good to have options.

Cotts is a pure LOOGY.  Angels hadn't had one in awhile.  Perhaps Eppler is trying to see if he could be usefull?

Would had been nice to get Cotts a few years ago after he left White Sox... He's a good addition to the group!

 

 

Nothing like having a guy who can get loose and come in 65-70+ games  and only total out 60-64 innings pitched he's got a good rubber arm!
