Netflix admits to throttling speeds for AT&T and Verizon subscribers

Recommended Posts

I kind of get this from Netflix' perspective.  They are protecting their users from themselves. The ones who don't understand the difference between using wifi and 4G.  Streaming 1080P at high quality could use up monumental bandwidth on mobile devices. Best case scenario would be with unlimited data plans which would still have the user eventually getting to the soft cap which throttles their network speed for the remainder of the billing cycle. Worse case scenario would be astronomical data fees. Both cases would lead to a blowback from customers which would include Netflix themselves. And exactly how much bandwidth is necessary to display an adequate picture on a @#$@#$@# 5 inch screen?  However it does leave a sour taste in ones mouth when you consider Netflix as one of the biggest supporters of net neutrality. I think in a perfect world more transparency from Netflix about their decision would have been appreciated though even then it would be just "blah blah tl;dr" for many users.
