Nava/Gentry predictions for 2016?

Maybe not as bad as 2015, but still below what you need from LF.

I actually don't think Nava-Gentry are it. My guess is if they don't bring in Austin Jackson, they may end up rolling with Choi a lot more than expected.

If they're still somehow in it at the deadline, we'll see them bring in someone else for RF.

Probably depends a lot on how and when they are used, and If Scioscia actually defers to his analytic people, instead of his gut feel or rolling bones on his desk, or whatever he does.

you'd be a lot more than happy with those numbers. that would be killing it, and if nava hit those production numbers, then that means the composite leftfielder would be nearing 100 rbi. i don't see that happening. if it does, then +1 for eppler and he gets to tell everyone to suck his fatty.

Seeing how Gentry wasn't good enough to make a major league roster last year I don't expect much.

Gentry might not even make the team but he did play a little last season for the A's.

It would be really disappointing if Nava can hit .325 and that is higher than his slugging percentage. In fact it would be really difficult. Same with Gentry.

 

They will probably settle in around the .255 - .270 range for average with about a .315-.330 obp. More than serviceable in the post steroid era.

Well we need Nava to hit .260 because if he does he will have at least a .330 OBP. He historically has an OBP 60-100 points higher than his average.

One of them will hit around .240, the other will hit around .180 and get DFA'd by midseason. These predictions of .260+ are pretty aggressive.

if they get a composite .340 obp out of LF, then the platoon will almost certainly be a success. the success will be mitigated by the LF hitting in the bottom of the lineup rather than at the top, where the angels really need obp. however, if the obp is there, then that means that innings/rallies are not being chronically killed by the void in LF.

That's what I see as well. Sadly I have no idea who bats 2nd when Gentry plays, Kole? So then your line up is awful after batter five who would be Cron.

If there is one thing I feel good about in terms of our LF platoon, it's Nava's obp.  I could see the combo of him and Gentry at .250/.340/.370 

 

Something that nets us 1.5 to 2.0 WAR.
