Jose Fernandez news..

This is the one kid I'd like to sign.

Next week's scheduled showcase for Cuban infielder Jose Fernandez has been postponed.

MLB.com's Jesse Sanchez says it's because Fernandez has dengue fever. The showcase should be rescheduled shortly. Ranked by BA as the No. 3 player still in Cuba, Fernandez is considered big league-ready but is not expected to sign in time to make an Opening Day roster. He's exempt from the international bonus pools.

More info on Fernandez.

Hope we can sign this guy!

Seems like it'd be a good move to try and nab another young Cuban prospect or two, even if they're not very highly-touted, just to have another player or two with Baldoquin, especially since he seemed to struggle adapting last year. I know it isn't much, but with Baldoquin, Escobar, and Maya there's a little more Cuban presence in the organization. Baby steps.

The Angels will sign him.  The medical staff will clear him.  About a month into the season, after the Angels go 5-20 they will realize that he didn't have Dengue Fever, but the plague.  All 25 players will have to go into quaranteen for a month.

Oddly, when the AAA team gets called up, they will go 13-12 only to be sent down and told they aren't good enough when the team gets out of stasis.

It not about whether they scout this guy or not.  It's about money.

Every last dollar on this team goes to the mlb club.  If there isn't any money being spent on the major league club then they just don't have any more money to spend.

Unless......Arte has truly seen the light and instead of spending on the major league club as much, he reallocated some of that minor to improve minor league and international talent.  But I kinda f'n doubt it.

Plus, that ship has pretty much sailed.
