Nobody believed me.

I didn't, but Arte's comments a month ago convinced me. That was when I accepted that the offseason was pretty much done and all they were going to do from there on out was look for more minor league FA's or the Daniel Nava's of the world on 1yr deal type things. Arte doesn't want to go over the threshold....it's his team so he can do with it what he wants. Unfortunately for fans, we have to accept that this is likely a .500 team who misses the playoffs for the 6th time in the past 7 years

That's a big signing. $22 million per season. If he can't handle AL pitching, that deal is going to suck big time. If his OPS is in the low to mid 8's, should be an ok signing.

I think that is a solid deal for him in today's market and wouldn't have been upset if Arte paid him that.

Very solid deal for Detroit. If Upton performs on par with prior seasons he'll probably opt out, by that time their window for playoffs/championships will probably be completely closed with their aging roster. If he sucks, well that rebuild is gonna last a LONG time.

You think the Angels have it bad paying Albert and Josh, wait until Miguel Cabrera gets old and injured and they are paying him $31 million and Verlander is starting the $28 million a year portion of his deal for the next four years. Yikes.
