I don't mind a bit of tussling and realize that I say things that can be controversial, at least in this relatively conservative context, but I just find it bothersome what is accepted in this forum, and that there are ridiculous double standards in play. I make a satirical post about Republican candidates and get accused of being nasty, yet Adam can harass me and its OK (not to mention the time he made the joke about my daughters being gang-banged...this community condones that, I guess, at least from moderators). I've even tied to hold the olive branch to Adam, but he ignores it and continues his harassment. WTF is up with that? Why is that OK? You tell me, mtangelsfan, wopphil, Tank, etc.

 

Its an old boys club - if you're in, you can say what you want and people will clap you on the back. If you're not in, you get piled on. As much as I disagree with Juan Savage's politics, the amount of shit that is piled on him is ridiculous. The irony is that he is much more of a gentleman--and actually willing to discuss the issues--than a lot of the folks attacking him.

Hey AJ, I get you feel the respondents are ganging up but in reality it is just a collective disagreement with radical socialistic platforms. Most of these guys are actually boring middle of the road middle class tired of taking the National nut squeeze everytime another tax to pay for plan goes through.

All that aside, Tank is the biggest ahole ever. Really, you have to meet this guy to fully understand just how mean spirited he is to the core. Never smiles, never has a good word to say, doesn't even play a good game of golf. The only reason anyone invites him is he brings bourbon by the case load and buys us all suites for home games vs the Red Sox and Yankees, then he wears their team gear to taunt us.

If it was just disagreement about political ideas, I'd be fine with it - let's discuss, disagree, whatever. What I find distasteful are the insults and personal attacks, as well as the double-standards that exist. I also find that this forum is rather intolerant of views outside of its rather libertarian purview. I don't really fit into the demographic you describe, or that of sports fans in general - being more of a countercultural artist/intellectual in neither a blue or white collar work environment. Most of my friends and colleagues don't spend inordinate amounts of time on sports forums - actually, probably none of them do. But I have a rather diverse range of interests, ranging as wide as sports to pretentious artsy flicks that Adam despises.

From what I have seen you post on aw (which, of course, is a very very small part of who you are) most of the way you inflate yourself is how you view many of the folks you disagree with.  Now, maybe when you insult "conservative Christians" or other groups you don't see eye to with you are joking, but it doesn't come off that way.

 

Now to the other side of this, pretty much everyone who posts on the spin forum is a dick.
