I'm starting to think that one of these guys could be had for a relative bargain. Prices for mid tier talent have gone through the roof. Heyward got a nice deal but left a lot of money on the table in exchange for a super early (and multiple) opt out. The rest of these guys will be looking for similar, if not higher AAV, and it looks like none of them are getting it. Cespedes, Gordon, and Upton are all decent bets to be every bit as good as Heyward next year.

 

If they are all looking for $35m per year then I understand the hold up. But at $25m per year, depending on the length, these guys would be paid far less than guys like Price, Grenkie, or a lot of middle tier talent, in terms of overall value.

Gordon is probably worth 5 years/$90 million.

But losing the first round pick for him makes it tough to consider, as he is 32.

The reality is Cespedes, Gordon and Upton are not worth 20+ million a year and that is what all of them are trying to get.  Hopefully teams continue to refuse to overpay for these guys and their prices drop below 20 million a year.
