@Alden_Gonzalez: Steve Martone, Yankees manager of pro scouting the last two years, has been brought in as an assistant GM, will help with player personnel.

"They approached me after he was released," Cashman said of Michael Fishman, the Yankees' assistant general manager and director of quantitative analysis, and professional scouting manager Steve Martone. "They continued to make their case that they believed that he still had upside and he was better than his numbers showed. Under that circumstance, because it didn't cost anything, I agreed to sign him for kind of the equivalent of an NBA 10-day contract tryout. And he's performed as a high level ever since. We re-signed him as a free agent and he's continued to perform."

That deserves it's own thread, there were members wondering who would fill Servais and Klentak's role. Looks like the Angels have upgraded.

The first base coach makes far fewer decisions. I know that sounds weird because more players get on first than third but it's true. When a player is rounding first on a hit the ball is in front of them, they know where the ball is. When they are rounding third the ball is behind them, or in the short stops hand if Disar is the one waving you.

I realize none of us played Major League Baseball but most of us played competitive baseball. How many times rounding first on a hit to the outfield did you rely on the 1b coach to tell you whether or not to go to 2nd? How many times were you running to first looking to see if the 1b coach to see if you should stretch it? I would venture to say never. However how many times are you sprinting around second on your way to third and you instinctively are looking for the 3rd base coach to know where to go or stay, slide or stand.
