Governors of 4 U.S. states say no to admitting Syrian refugees

Obama administration defends its Syrian refugee screening

Phew, after reading this.  I feel much better about letting Syrians in.  Who cares about papers.  They just have to describe that their house got bombed and where and when.  not like they could lie.  And don't worry about background checks, they could have killed 10 people with a butter knife then raped the dog.  But they are all good, because we can't look at criminal history in Syria.  Nothing can go wrong here.

Oh and on the sidenote.  maybe criminal history is overrated.  Because LA sure is thinking about making it so that you can't ask that question on employment questionaires.  Only after you offer them a job.  Which probably opens up businesses then of getting sued if the person gets fired.

It is already law in SF I believe, GB. Can't run a BG check until after they've been offered and accepted the job.

LOL. that's completely backwards.

and of course, once hired, it'll be nearly impossible to fire them, won't it?

lol, not that he matters. But the sith lord Rupert Murdoch had a tweet about allowing the ones in that can "prove their christianity" For real, thats pretty much the exact tweet.

"eat this pork chop" and whoever refuses, shoot them.

(Obviously there will be tragic collateral damage from the language barrier, and syrian vegetarians. Sorry tank)

There is a reason I am voting Trump.  If our country can survive the Obama terrorism infiltration until Trump gets in there, Trump will send them all back. Better yet, Trump's plan is to mix in Mexicans because who can tell the difference and send them to Syria also.  Syria will have over 100 million refugees sent back under Trump.

The whole thing gets me.  I know phobia wins but maybe these people did turn themselves in hoping to get away and not come kill us all.  Could be a family that had a business there before the place was ruined and got themselves out.  Not sure if any of you have seen what it is like to be there or not right now.

Good sign for all you Islamaphobiasts to move to Texas, they ain't a gettin at us, we'll hang em high.

Except that many of the folks that are running refugee camps in Syria and other spots in the ME are "christ followers".

Who in this thread that is a Christ follower is saying what you are saying?

Red, you liked the post, how about it?

Name names pussies.

I was referring to the plethora of Republican candidates, all of whom are bending over backwards to see who can shit themselves in fear the most regarding 10,000 refugees.

Here is the President of France talking about refugees

"Life should resume fully," Hollande told a gathering of the country's mayors, who gave him a standing ovation. "What would France be without its museums, without its terraces, its concerts, its sports competitions? France should remain as it is. Our duty is to carry on our lives." In the same spirit, he added, "30,000 refugees will be welcomed over the next two years. Our country has the duty to respect this commitment," explaining that they will undergo vigorous security checks. Hollande noted that "some people say the tragic events of the last few days have sown doubts in their minds," but called it a "humanitarian duty" to help those people … but one that will go hand in hand with "our duty to protect our people." "We have to reinforce our borders while remaining true to our values," he said.

Certainly a bolder stance than we are seeing from many folks on the right

* At this point we have seen two of the candidates suggest that only Christian refugees from these regions should be accepted (Bush and Cruz)

* One suggests that we should electronically monitor communications and have companies sensor religious hate speech (Carson).

We can monitor social media by expanding the search algorithms already in place to safeguard against inappropriate behavior, including religious hate speech. Once flagged, we can notify platform providers and encourage them to censor communications (and block users) that violate the terms of constructive discourse.

* One go so far as suggest today that not only should we close places of religious worship, but we should consider registering and tracking all Muslims (Trump) in the United States.

https://www.yahoo.com/politics/donald-trump-has-big-plans-1303117537878070.html?soc_src=social-sh&soc_trk=tw

Yahoo News asked Trump whether this level of tracking might require registering Muslims in a database or giving them a form of special identification that noted their religion. He wouldn’t rule it out.“We’re going to have to — we’re going to have to look at a lot of things very closely,” Trump said when presented with the idea. “We’re going to have to look at the mosques. We’re going to have to look very, very carefully.”

* One suggested we should create an Air America for Jesus...maybe we can create a new Department of Evangelism to replace the Department of Energy...would certainly save on letterhead (Kasich)

http://www.nbcnews.com/politics/2016-election/kasich-proposes-new-government-agency-promote-judeo-christian-values-n465101

* And let's not forget Ted Cruz challenging Obama to "say it to his face" because his feelings were hurt that he called them out for pushing fear and panic

* We've had politicians, including Democrats, suggest that we should consider creating internment camps, similar to what we did to US Citizens who had Japanese ancestry in WWII.

http://www.esquire.com/news-politics/news/a39837/japanese-internment-syrian-refugees/

* We've had politicians suggest the National Guard should be used to round up and remove people who have already been granted refugee status from their state

http://www.npr.org/2015/11/19/456502693/tennessee-lawmaker-calls-for-national-guard-to-round-up-syrian-refugees

* We've had the governor of one state, India, make perfectly clear refugees who were being placed by a Christian charity group were not welcome in his state, so clear they ended up being relocated to Connecticut

Is this the country we aspire to be? A country that tells 5 year old orphans...go **** yourself? (Chris Christie) Or suggests we should monitor religious institutions and register people.

I sometimes wonder how were we willing to give up various freedoms in the name of "security" after 9/11, did it really make us "safer"...and yet that reaction was nothing compared to the race to the bottom we are currently on.

For those wondering...here is the process refugees go through

http://fusion.net/story/235109/arnessa-twitter-refugee-bosnia-yugoslavia-america-process-seeking-asylum/

http://www.economist.com/news/united-states/21674694-america-should-reclaim-its-role-beacon-those-fleeing-persecution-and-war-yearning

Refugees apply for resettlement at American embassies or through the United Nations. If they pass that first hurdle, they are screened by outposts of the Department of State all over the world. They undergo investigations of their biography and identity; FBI biometric checks of their fingerprints and photographs; in-person interviews by Department of Homeland Security officers; medical screenings as well as investigations by the National Counter-terrorism Centre and by American and international intelligence agencies. The process may take as long as three years, sometimes longer. No other person entering America is subjected to such a level of scrutiny.

http://blogs.wsj.com/washwire/2015/11/18/qa-how-does-the-syrian-refugee-screening-process-work/

Q: What kind of screenings do refugees go through?

A:  Refugees from all countries receive “the most rigorous screening and security vetting of any category of traveler to the United States,” a senior administration official told reporters Tuesday.  That process includes biographic and biometric security checks – i.e. checking records and doing fingerprinting.   The information collected is run through databases maintained by the National Counterterrorism Center, the Pentagon, and domestic and international law enforcement agencies, including the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Interpol. Law enforcement, the Pentagon and the intelligence community all vet information provided by and obtained about refugees to help make a determination about whether they will ultimately be allowed to come to the U.S.

Q: Any extra screening for Syrian refugees?

A: Yes. Syrian refugees go through an enhanced review process on top of that with extra national security checks. All Syrian refugees considered for resettlement in the U.S. are interviewed in person by specially trained staff, mostly in Amman and Istanbul, but also in Cairo and elsewhere. Refugees must also undergo health screenings and a cultural orientation before they arrive in the U.S.

Q: How long does it take?

A:  The process usually takes between 18 to 24 months and generally begins with a referral from the U.N. refugee agency.

I wish I was surprised. I'm willing to bet Trump sees a spike too. Fear certainly does drive our political process.

This is funny because Murcians are the best publicity ISIS can hope for

You have Islamaphobia daily... you are stroking ISIS

You go on social media everyday screaming your POTUS is a Muslim destroying your country...you are stroking ISIS

You instill fears in everyone daily that they are coming for you...you are stroking ISIS

list goes on.  They love the fact we are as crazy as them.

If Obama were able to demonstrate that he has a single ****ing clue in the world regarding ISIS then people might have some confidence in his judgement.

Jay, i am not sure anyone has a single ****ing clue in the world regarding ISIS.  You know for a fact any move Obama makes regarding ISIS will be frowned upon. He could go kill them all single handed and he would be labeled a murderer.
