I would offer a three year deal worth about $45M

First year at 10M - allows the team to spend on the offense while vastly improving our SP. It also allow us to trade some of our starters like Santiago and Shoemaker for relief pitching or position players.

Second year at 15M - Wilson money off the books

Third year at 20M - Hamilton money off the books

Very affordable for a gamer like Lackey

It doesn't really work like that. They take the average of the contract and that's what hits the luxury tax each year.

Im not saying i qould or would not like to have lackey back. But damn if i dont miss these threads.

Bottom line is lackey is a stud. the guy is a work horse, and i could see him bucking the trend of our starters only going 5 innings. Hes old, but i could see him jockeying for the front of the rotation

here's the contract i would offer lackey:

3 years/ 30 mil

and then i'd load it up with all kinds of performance clauses, both personal accomplishments and team accomplishments. if lackey ends up earning 3/50, good for him, and good for the team (and fine by me).
