Bill Dwyre retiring; TJ Simers update

She said that sometimes Simers does not shower and said conversations with her husband are "difficult" because he has nothing to talk about now that he no longer writes columns.

"Why wouldn't you get up and take a shower and get going?" she said. "But he doesn't have anything to get going to."

I would have a hard time suppressing laughter over this testimony if I were on the jury.

Simers played a professional troll, and a pretty good one, IMO.

Plaschke is much, much worse.  King of the 20/20 hindsight, king of the one word paragraphs.  King of the faux plea for the little man (The Dodgers raised their seat prices again!!). Just utter garbage.

Once in a while, he pulls a great human interest story out of his ass (the Compton girls softball team), but he doesn't even do those any more.

In before AO's mention that Bill Dwyre is the famed "Editor Bill" from the Jim Healy show.

Also, from the article:

"The stress came from not working at the LA Times," she said. "He's a completely different person. He doesn't have any focus."

The Times claims that Simers was not forced out of the paper but that editors Marc Duvoisin and Davan Maharaj, who were present in the courtroom, asked him to stay on an extended contract.

I've seen Simers up close.  He has had bad personal grooming for a long time.  When I met him, he had sh*t in his teeth that looked like it had been there for years.

As I understand things, the editors wanted him to make some changes to his column. Might have been something as simple as cutting the numbers of words down. They didn't cut his salary or anything.

He then quit. Then filed suit. Said he was constructively terminated, meaning the Times made his working conditions so intolerable he had no choice but to quit. And that they took these actions because of his age and disability.

From what I read, there was no evidence whatsoever supporting the allegations.

But of course, you are dealing with a downtown L.A. jury. Finest of the finest. The people who want to give everyone a winning lottery ticket for wasting weeks of their lives on a jury.
