Pile on Howie Night

ABC

Recommended Posts

I'm good with Howie right where he is.

The guy was steady unless it was a big situation. He never developed into a player that could be trusted with game-season on the line.

Oh and to Calscuf...nothing says DODGER BLUE like prison porn.

I wondered when someone would break that one out.

AJ Ellis struck out right before Howie.  Why aren't people blasting him for that.  Blaming him for one bad night is incredibly stupid and shows really poor understanding of the game.

1. Nobody gives a shit about AJ Ellis

2. That ninth inning at bat was laughably bad.  Comical.  In the biggest at bat of the year.

Plenty of people hit 3 run jacks.  Joey Bats is getting all the attention because *when* he hit it.  Howie looked like he was on qualudes in the biggest at bat of the year.

The Dodgers hadn't scored since the first inning. Turner had 3 of the 6 hits for them but also struck out swinging in the 7th with the tying runner on. The last Dodger hit was in the 5th inning. Familia retired 6 batters in a row to end the game.

Howie somehow is the scapegoat.

Yeah, Kendrick should have hit a three run home run in the 9th. Unfortunately Utley lined out and Ellis struck out to start the inning.

You and others aren't getting it.

Nobody gives a sh*t about any of the other faceless Dodger position players.  I couldn't pick out AJ Ellis from Yasmani Grandal to Seager if they were eating next to me at Tommy Burgers.  None of them played 10 years for the Angels.

And nobody I know is 'scapegoating' Howie.  I am laughing at his comically inept at bat in the spotlight.

I don't think anyone here truly understands what happened in this series for Howie.

Howie secretly hates the Doggies and really wants to sign with the Angels again.  He understands that most of us Angels fans despise the Doggies and he wants to support us.  The problem is how can he somehow look like he's trying, but sabotage the Doggies at the same time.  He hits a meaningless HR when the game is out of reach to make it look like he's trying, but when the game is on the line, he'll do something stupid.  For example, he purposely fumbles a routine grounder in last night's game to give the Mets another chance to score. He then has the perfect opportunity to demonstrate his ultimate allegiance to the Angels with his feeble last at bat.

Pretty simple if you ask me.

That last at bat by Howie was a prime example of why I wanted him gone for years. I never saw that posting by Howie but what a dick. Maybe if he ate, slept and breathed baseball he would learn how to lay off sliders away in big games. Man I'm glad we got Heaney and the Dodgers got to experience a little bit of the frustration in the playoffs that we had to endure for years.

lol

He was one of their better bats in the playoffs, and nobody, you, me or anyone else, lives their job 24 hours a day

I liked Howie as an Angels and won't bag on him for making the playoffs as a Dodger. Familia made 6 batters in a row look bad. That was his job and he did it well.

I remember the walk-off bunt single. That was a special moment.

Funny thing is he almost blew it by popping it up. I don't remember this play for some reason.

Gawd Brandon Wood was terrible!

Honestly I like Howie, don't care what team he's on, but that was one of the more half-assed, no battle, get me outta here as soon as possible at bats I've ever seen. Why anyone would ever throw him a fastball ever again after watching that at bat is beyond me. I guess for the most part, even though he had his moments like the link above, I remember Howie very rarely coming through in clutch situations. He just seemed to roll over and hit a piddler or something just crappy enough for an out, GIDP, or whatever just to piss me off.

However, I think he is a GREAT 2nd baseman and enjoyed watching him and Aybar for all those years. I just think he could be a MUCH better batter than he is, but sometimes you just get tired of holding hope, and he's not a guy I would have sent out there for the last out of the 9th if there were anyone else on the bench who stood a shot.

I don't think anyone expected Howie to do anything, and that's exactly what happened.

Kendrick posted the 3rd best OPS among Dodger hitters in the series.  Hit a HR.  10 Total bases.  Scored four runs which tied him for the most on the Dodgers, drove in four runs, second to A-Gon...  But that one at bat will be all anyone remembers or will ever talk about.

I think it was Shane that said it -- but it really would be awesome if MLB would position a camera so people could get a view of what pitches look like coming at them as opposed to the pitcher's view.  I'm guessing a lot of the armchair mockery would come to a screeching halt.
