Obama Announces Halt of U.S. Troop Withdrawal in Afghanistan

In abandoning his ambition to bring home almost all American troops before leaving office, Mr. Obama appears to be acknowledging that Afghan security forces are still not near ready to hold off the Taliban on their own.

Driving the Taliban from the government was easy, and accomplished in only a few weeks back in 2001.

 

Eradicating them is infinitely harder. It would probably require a million troops and the occupation of the country for the next fifty years.

 

This is a holding pattern. Eventually we will remove our few thousand troops and the country will fall to the savages once again.
