Why hit Odor?

 

Last time I looked, he is just as vulnerable as Gia during a double play.

 

I would imagine his apology was sincere since he knows all too well the reality of turning a double play.

I wouldn't mind seeing Odor get plunked, but I wouldn't want to risk Richards getting tossed. I seem to remember Weaver getting tossed in the first inning in a similar situation.

I think a hard slide in return, maybe a pop up with a forearm shot would be plenty. It would be poetic if Giavotella got the opportunity then picks Odor off the dirt afterward and says," Apology accepted."

That's why you nail him with a fastball.  If you take Odor out at second as hard as he took Gia out, you risk ending his career or putting him on the operating table.  A clean 95mph fastball will hurt like hell and serve as a friendly reminder for several days not to slide late into a defender's knee area.  Odor will be reminded every time he shifts in his sleep.

Can't imagine how anyone would laugh at or cheer a blatant attempt to injure someone.  He wasn't breaking up a DP, with cleats up he was targeting Gia who was well behind the base with no chance at a DP.  Bring in Gott for one at bat and send Odor a special delivery.

Focus on today's game needs to be on winning, not awarding free bases. Let the game dictate the opportunity for retribution, but don't go out of the way to make it happen. I'm sure Odor would take a fast ball to the back if it helps their chance on winning. So lets make sure they lose first.

i hated that and thought it was dirty when i saw the replay.      those are steel cleats hitting his calf area for potential serious damage.
