Government shutdown, 2015 version

I was in the Navy for 20 years and in that time only once was there any sort of a shutdown, and (shockingly) it occurred when a democrat was president and there was a republican congress.  In the last five years or so we've had constant threats of government shutdown with, once again, a democrat president and (for most of that time) a republican congress.  

 

Shit's getting old, yo.

What exactly was the effect when the government shut down? Did you guys just turn off the engines and bobbed in the ocean waiting for the go ahead to resume being the Navy?

If I recall correctly (and I probably don't, my memory is terrible) we went without pay for one pay period but still did our jobs, and the back pay was added to our next paycheck.  We kept on doing gay Navy stuff though.  We would have done that for free.

Congress and the Presidents are puppets to big money.  Talking about Dem vs Republican is a waste of time, IMO.

My brother in law is a civilian employee on a Navy base. They went without pay for two weeks. I also recall one of the captains on Deadliest Catch testifying before Congress because the crab fishermen in Alaska had a limited amount of time to make their living for the year, and they were being delayed because the offices that issued the necessary permits were shut down.

There isn't a separate ceremony for crossing the date line, but if you cross them both at the same time you get free cookies.

They get paid, it's just delayed. Some creditors are more understanding than others.
