Scioscia: "We're going to be fine"

Recommended Posts

If they can stay alive for the rest of the road trip(next 10 games), they might have a shot.

They have the worst road record in the AL and are pretty good at home.

I still don't ****ing understand why they continue to start weaver during road games. He's still effective at home, but useless on the road.

If you think about it .... I think you do understand.

The A's have a higher team batting average than the Angels and higher OPS.

Their pitching is ranked 14th, the Angels 16th.

And yet they are 14 games out of the Wildcard 16 behind the Astros.

Melvin got a contract extension.

You guys complain about Scioscia.

Life out of balance.

Every team wins 70 games and loses 70 games, it is what you do in the other 22 that matter.

Philadelphia only has 56 wins so far. Not every team reaches 70 and the next 20 for the Phillies doesn't mean shit.

Except for a draft pick. They need to watch their back, the A's, Reds and Rockies are trying to slip in behind them.

Billy Beane is the grossly overrated person over in Oakland.

Run prevention is more important than ever as demonstrated by the fact that KC and SF were in the world series despite having mediocre traditional stats during the regular season. As it stands now the A's have several statuesque players like Billy Butler on the roster who put up good slugging numbers but aren't exactly producing web gems.

A bad bullpen is another thing that can spoil what looks like good team pitching performance on paper by blowing leads in close games (see: Frieri, Ernesto and Street, Huston).

Butler has been the DH all but 5 games but the A's still rank last in fielding.

The saying is 60 and 60, there are teams every year that don't reach 70 wins or lose 70 times.

The 2013 Astros only won a total of 51 games. 11 of those were against the Angels, including a four game sweep in Anaheim.

I mean, to be honest what is he going to say.

Can you imagine a general in the line of duty, in the middle of a war with his troops saying "We're ****ed"?!?!?!?!

How about, let's figure a way to get out of this and survive? Keep positive.

Agreed. How can anyone not take what Scioscia says to the press with a grain of salt? It's just drivel to fill the articles the reporters have to write. Managers don't really lose their shit in front of the press these days.

What he says to the media wouldn't be a problem if the team showed urgency to win.

The delusion and apathy coming from Scioscia pretty much mirrors how the team thinks and plays most of the time.  Too many players have bought into the "turn the page" and "one game at a time" philosophies that ignore ongoing weaknesses.

Or, you know, they aren't that good.

'we need to turn the page on this one" -- Scioscia quote in the first paragraph of Monday's LA Times story of Sunday's fiasco.

that sweep of Houston would have meant we're sort of back in business in both the Division title race and the Wild Card race.

instead, a key loss like that during the second week in September and in the way it happened..........well, we're done.

of course, many of us just knew that Angels would find a way to win a few games, go on a bit of a run, keep the hopes up a bit -- only to see them dashed in a game like that.

Texas beat Houston tonight -- I think they're a half game apart right now..........
