I'm not sure most people would consider a Libertarians view of the role of government (or lack thereof) centrist.

I'm not going to argue with you that what is happening in Washington right now is lunacy, though your analysis of why is probably off.

But to think that a true libertarians view of the role of government is somehow "centrist" is quite amusing.
