Will potential halo collapse cost Trout another MVP?

Recommended Posts

Who else is there?  Miggy is hurt, and he legitimately had the numbers in the past.  Unless you give it to a pitcher, and that doesn't happen very often.

If Trout continues his numbers, he should be a runaway winner.  Whether or not the Angels make the playoffs.

Donaldson is the only other competition. Jays went bold at the deadline to get 2 of he best players in the game in Tulo and Price. If they secure a WC and the Angels(non Trout players) stumble to the finish line then yeah, I could see Donaldson getting the award. Donaldson is already ahead of Trout in one key stat that the voters love to slobber over...RBI

Yeah, 2013 was Miggy's for sure. Trout definitely should have won in 2012, though. Wish Miggy didn't get the Triple Crown because I wanted to see if the voters still would have chosen him over Trout simply for the fact that the Tigers won their division and the Angels missed the playoffs(despite the Angels winning more games than Detroit)

Trout's 2012 was so historic, way more historic than what Miggy did. Still bummed that Trout got CS on the last day(by crappy defensive catcher Jesus Montero of all people) to rob him of only the 3rd 30 HR, 50 SB season in MLB history. Trout won't have another chance to accomplish that, especially with him shifting more towards being a big time slugger over a a more balanced power/speed threat

If Trout decides to run wild again one of these years he could legit have a shot at a 40/40 season, but it's hard to see him getting to 40 SB's again.

Here's another way to put it. Let's say Trout "struggles" for the rest of the year, hitting .250/.350/.500 - like he did the last couple months of last year. His year-end numbers in about 155 games played would be something like this: .290/.390/.590 with 45 HR, 15 SB, 100 RBI and 110 Runs, but still with a WAR around 8.5 to 9 and best in the AL.

Chances are he won't fall off that much and will finish .300+/.400+/.600+ with a 9+ WAR.
