Louisiana

This includes garage sales.  Remarkably, the one group that doesn't have to follow this are pawn shops.

I swear this country is so damn stupid.

But is it the country or Louisiana? And isn't this the kind of state sovereignty that Libertarians want?

This is the type of state sovereignty that Libertarians are dead against. The purpose of the federal government should be to establish a basic set of rules to protect the citizens from this type of crap. Unless you establish citizens' rights democracy is just 2 wolves and a lamb voting on what to have for lunch.

All this does again, is put the hammer down on the poor and middle class, both buyers and sellers.  Be forced to take checks that can bounce.

This is also an information power grab.  They want that buyer/seller information.

My guess is that they are wanting sales tax on these private transactions - even though tax was paid when the item was originally bought.
