The mayor of the central Florida city where George Zimmerman shot and killed Trayvon Martin in 2012 was carjacked while standing outside his home, according to police who said Sunday they were hunting for a third suspect.

Sanford Mayor Jeff Triplett was outside around 2:15 a.m. Saturday when three men approached, pointed a gun at him and stole his car keys, police said. They told reporters the suspects also stole Triplett's wallet before driving off in his Mercedes.

Triplett gave a detailed description of the suspects to police and 18-year-old Jermine Jacques Horne and a 17-year-old were arrested a short time later.

  Dad tried reviving daughter left in hot car by putting her in refrigerator, police say

A Dallas-area man forgot about his 6-month-old daughter as she sat sweltering in a hot minivan for four hours Tuesday, and when he remembered her, he tried putting the unresponsive child in a refrigerator to revive her before she died, police said.

Michael Thedford, 33, was charged with manslaughter and booked into the Collin County Jail after the grim discovery. He was released on $20,000 bond later in the day. Jail records did not list an attorney.

Thedford, an unemployed former high school teacher, dropped off his 3-year-old and 5-year-old children at daycare around 9 a.m. on Tuesday, but when he returned to his home in Melissa, Thedford forgot about his 6-month-old daughter, according to a warrant viewed by KHOU. He went inside the house to take a four-hour nap before waking up and realizing the baby girl remained in the hot minivan.

When he found the girl she was unresponsive, according to the warrant, so Thedford brought her inside the house and put her in a refrigerator for "an undetermined length of time." He then called his wife, who was at work, and 911 while trying unsuccessfully to perform CPR.

Authorities arrived around 1:30 p.m. to find the girl dead in the kitchen.

The National Weather Service reported the temperature at the nearby McKinney National Airport had risen to the low 90s but felt like the upper 90s by Tuesday afternoon.

i dont have kids yet, but this article i read a few years ago (won the pulitzer prize) about leaving kids in cars still resonates.

Big companies pad their bank accounts instead of passing the savings to consumers

JPMorgan Chase patted itself on the back earlier this year after announcing plans to close hundreds of branches and increasingly shift customer transactions to ATMs and online banking.

A deposit involving a human teller, the bank noted, costs it about 65 cents, whereas an ATM deposit costs just 8 cents and using a smartphone app lowers the transaction cost to a mere 3 cents. Chase figures these moves will save the bank about $1.4 billion.

And how much of those savings can customers expect to see?

“Probably none,” said Alfred E. Osborne Jr., a UCLA economist and senior associate dean of the school’s Anderson School of Management. “Prices only fall when there’s reasonable competition or reasonable alternatives, and you don’t see that in many industries.”

BORN RACIST?
Elite school teaches 'white privilege' to kindergartners

An elite Manhattan school is teaching white students as young as 6 that they’re born racist and should feel guilty benefiting from “white privilege,” while heaping praise and cupcakes on their black peers.

Administrators at the Bank Street School for Children on the Upper West Side claim it’s a novel approach to fighting discrimination, and that several other private New York schools are doing it, but even liberal parents aren’t buying it.

They complain the K-8 school of 430 kids is separating whites in classes where they’re made to feel awful about their “whiteness,” and all the “kids of color” in other rooms where they’re taught to feel proud about their race and are rewarded with treats and other privileges.

“Ever since Ferguson, the school has been increasing anti-white propaganda in its curriculum,” said a parent who requested anonymity because he has children currently enrolled in the school.

Bank Street has created a “dedicated space” in the school for “kids of color,” where they’re “embraced” by minority instructors and encouraged to “voice their feelings” and “share experiences about being a kid of color,” according to school presentation slides obtained by The Post.

Meanwhile, white kids are herded into separate classrooms and taught to raise their “awareness of the prevalence of Whiteness and privilege,” challenge “notions of colorblindness (and) assumptions of ‘normal,’ ‘good,’ and ‘American’” and “understand and own European ancestry and see the tie to privilege.”

The entire autopilot concept is so flawed and is going to result in more deaths. The auto industry is going to kill themselves with lawsuits from every accident that occurs when it could have been avoided by a driver response to conditions on the road.
