Nike moves to make tying laces a thing of the past

Forget about slipping out of your shoes because of loose laces or feeling pressure from too-tight tying when doing those sprints.

Nike Inc. has unveiled its first power-lacing sneaker — it allows users to make the fit looser or snugger on the fly by pressing buttons on the side of the shoe.

That takes the pressure off of USC athletics recruiting staff, one less requirement to fill.

Geeze, they expect us to remember some obscure stop thing for Trout.  And yet they forget......

Santa Monica firm says it has found a way to salt away electricity, literally

In the energy world, the ability to store electricity at an affordable price is the treasure sought by utility engineers and financial wizards.

SolarReserve believes it has found a solution.

The Santa Monica company recently completed what it touts as a first-of-its-kind solar power plant that stores electricity using salt. The facility, in Nevada between Reno and Las Vegas, is 20 times larger than a SolarCity-Tesla solar and storage operation in Hawaii, which incorporates batteries.

Called Crescent Dunes, the SolarReserve power plant is a 110-megawatt facility with 10 hours of energy storage. That translates into 1,100 megawatt hours of storage, enough to power 75,000 homes. In other words, the facility can run for an additional 10 hours at the full 110 megawatt output just from the stored energy, with zero sunshine.

Crescent Dunes manages this by using rings of billboard-size mirrors to reflect the sun onto a tower filled with salt. The molten salt boils water, producing steam that powers electricity-generating turbines.

PALM COAST, Fla. –  Authorities say a Georgia man dressed up like a Target employee stole 41 cellphones from a central Florida store.

The Flagler County Sheriff's Office issued a warrant Tuesday for 26-year-old Jarmal Brown on charges of grand theft and burglary.

The Daytona Beach News-Journal (bit.ly/1MlKHgj) reports Brown entered a Target store Monday morning dressed like a new cellphone sales team member and asked to be let into an equipment room.

Sheriff's spokesman Jim Troiano says Brown took the cellphones valued at $31,000 from a secured cabinet and left the store.

He was driving a white 2010 Nissan Altima with a Georgia license plate.

Man steals BMW he tried to buy with food stamp card, investigators say

Authorities in Florida have arrested a man they say stole a BMW after trying to buy it with a food stamp debit card.

The Martin County Sheriff's Office tells news outlets in a statement that 36-year-old Nicholas Jackson was arrested Friday and charged with grand theft auto.

Deputies say Jackson was turned away at the Pompano Beach auto dealership after trying to buy the $60,000 car using his EBT card and a credit card.

However, deputies say the suspect returned the next night and stole the car along with keys from 60 other vehicles.

Deputies say they later found Jackson with the car and the keys after he ran out of gas because he didn't have money to fill the tank.

We just went in Friday. Bought $95 annual passes from Costco. Loads of black out dates, but how often do you really need to go? We might go three times total.

Harry Potter world was open. It's pretty cool. The ride was crazy wild.

Good thing might be.  Once Harry Potter is open.  You can go to the Simpsons part of the park and have a few brews in peace.
