Angels 2B Trade Options

Recommended Posts

Personally, I like the idea of rolling the dice with either Green, Giavotella or Featherston first.  But if June/July rolls around and we still haven't had anything nearing consistent production from 2B, I'd take a look at these guys.

(Note: If the Angels were to theoretically act on any Dodgers 2B options, they'd probably be better off doing so in April).

As I've learned from the internet, trolls are narcissists, psychopaths and sadists.  The best thing we can do is ignore them, and so that's what I'll be doing whenever possible.

As for Baldoquin, as far as I know, he'd be an extreme dark horse.  A lot of things would have to happen.  Every option the angels have would have to fail miserably, including Green and Yarbrough.  Baldoquin would have to be hitting something like .350 in AA and the Angels would have to show no interest in players from outside the organization.

1% chance I guess.

No need for name calling ... not everyone is gong to agree with you.

Baldoquin is a shortstop, and the Angels plan on him being one.  But he gives them a lot of flexibility because he could play 2B, 3B or the OF as well.  For example, if the club wanted to keep Aybar around and weren't impressed by the solutions at 2B, Baldoquin could move there.  Or if Kubitza didn't cut it at 3B he could move there.  Or if Hamilton can't make it back and Joyce hits Free Agency they could slide him into LF.

There's a lot of different directions Dipoto could go with Baldoquin.  A very good signing from the outside.  He's got the glove and intangibles to be a major leaguer.  Seems like he'll hit too but we'll see.

I agree re: Baldoquin, but think you're jumping the gun a bit even considering 2B trade options. The Angels have FIVE options right now and chances are one or two of them is serviceable. I mean, I suppose it is possible that they start with Rutledge and Featherston and let Giavotella go, but then they still have Green as a backup in case Rutledge bombs. Not to mention that by mid-season, Yarbrough could be ready.

I feel confident that between those five, the Angels will have at worst just below league average production, probably better.

It would be nice if you didn't post links to your website ... unless that's the only way you can get somebody to visit.

My bad

speak for yourself.  You don't like it, don't click on it.

We don't always agree with Scotty but his articles promote discussion and they are typically a good read.

I am all for some trial and error.  Let Johnny G-man have the job on opening day because he's truly earned it.

Give him at least 150 at bats as the everyday guy and see what happens.

At that point, you are a quarter of the way thru the season.  You will know a little more about what Featherston is capable of.

It will be interesting to see what happens in AAA if Rutledge is sent there because Yarborough should be the starting 2bman.

I see one of two things happening with Giavotella.

1.  He get a spring training hangover and lets up after winning the job.

2.  He becomes the everyday guy for a few years and eventually works his way into the leadoff spot.

I don't think "let up" is in Giavotella's vocabulary. He's an all-out type of player. You also brought up a point that gets me really excited that I never considered before, Giavotella leading off. He has the on-base ability and speed to do it. If that happens then Dipoto is a genius. It'd mean we came close to replicating Kendrick's production for free, saved 9 million and got a top pitching prospect in return!

If Rutledge ends up in AAA as I expect he might, he'll be all over the diamond. Yarbrough's the 2B, they've made that much clear. He may log a few innings in LF too. Stamets will be at SS because he's all world there. Kubitza's the 3B because that spot is his next year. Krauss will be at 1B and Bandy should be at catcher/DH with Perez. Green will also be in LF as well as 3B, SS and 2B.
