Airbus A320 Crashes in Alps

The plane was on its way from Barcelona to Duesseldorf and was lost in the southern French Alps. There were 142 passengers and 6 crew on board. Authorities don't expect to find any survivors.

Well, Germanwings are no longer on the same level as Quantas anymore.  

 

I hope they find survivors.  But reading those two posts.  Odd set of events.

The 16 students from the town of Haltern in Germany who are thought to have been on the plane had been on a week-long exchange that ended today.

Local police said they are still waiting on official confirmation the students had been killed, but have already sent staff to the school to assist students and teachers.

Isn't it standard practice to always have 2 people in the cockpit? Even if 1 of the 2 is a flight attendant.

Malaysia seemed to have a hint of deliberate downing, and now this.

There was another plane before this, think it was coming out of Brazil a few years back.  That was downed by suicide.

An article I read said that American carriers do this but it is unknown whether European carriers have adopted the same practice.

The chief French prosecutor investigating the tragedy says that the pilot crashed the plane deliberately.

There are also reports that the passengers were heard screaming as they realized the pilot couldn't get back into the cockpit and they were about to hit the mountains.
