Rowshaid is laughing because the most he could face is four years, eight months in prison. That will be reduced to less than two years due to prison overcrowding. He'll have three meals a day and all the other amenities and make some new gangbanger friends.

 

Two of the women have already been released pending a future arraignment. They will be charged with "defrauding an innkeeper" which will get them no more than a couple months in jail. I can imagine their sentences will be commuted, again die to overcrowding.

 

We need to build a bunch of new prisons and put a bunch of people away for a long time. But the money's not there, and the people don't want to pay the taxes it would take to do so.

Depends on a few things fan since. Assuming they have no criminal record (possible) then it could be like you said a very short sentance. But if they have priors (probably), and the DA starts stacking up the ADW with conspiracy, felony hit and run, etc, the potential time given is a lot more.

As far as the women, do they have cell phones? If so the "i was just in the car" defense is gone. If you were present in the vehicle, and did not in a reasonable amount of time report a felony crime like that which occured, you now go from witness to participant.
