Voting Should Be Mandatory: Obama

Recommended Posts

Hold on a second...if one party doesn't have ideas that are popular with a larger voting pool...the answer isn't to shrink the voting pool but either adjust your policies or do a better job of explaining why your ideas are better.

It is fair and democratic to have a larger electorate.

Would love to have more people participating. Maybe Barry is right and the sheer volume of those voting will counteract the influence of lobbyists. It's worth a try.

But if his goal is simply to keep his party in a position of power, that seems contradictory to the whole process, does it not? And yes, I know all politicians want to keep their own party in power.

You think voter ID and scaling back voting access isn't about keeping a party in power?

Voters without any form of ID are so sophisticated they have evolved beyond the need for such mundane documentation mechanisms.

yep

rsn-P.jpgaul Carroll, an 86-year-old World War II veteran who has lived in the same Ohio town for four decades, was denied a chance to vote in the state's primary contests today after a poll worker denied his form of identification, a recently-acquired photo ID from the Department of Veterans Affairs. The poll worker rejected the ID because it did not contain an address, as required by Ohio law.

Carroll told the Cleveland Plain Dealer that he got the ID from the VA after his driver's license expired because he doesn't drive anymore:

Geez, you'd think by age 86 the guy would know his own state's voting laws and come prepared.

When Obama said "everyone" he even meant dead people, which vote for him by the thousands.

He probably knew he would be turned away.  I wouldn't be surprised if that whole thing was staged:

AURORA, Ohio – A Portage County World War II veteran was turned away from a polling place this morning because his driver’s license had expired in January and his new Veterans Affairs ID did not include his home address.

What did he do run home and call the media?

Kurt, is your only purpose in life to be a dick?

Ya nate, it is just me.  I like to stir the pot, as MT knows, but have nothing but respect for you guys, just like to be a dick.  Good thing is you didn't call me a "little" dick.  Take me for a grain of salt.
