I love Google maps.

Mapped a bike route to go north from the IE. Ran it through Lytle Creek ( which Google said there was a way ). Nope.

I drove it first to check out the viability. Actually followed a fire road about a mile before backing down about a quarter mile to get out.

I chalked it up to one of those foolish things you have to do every once in a while to keep life interesting.

At least both me and my wife lived.

Coney Island’s Cyclone roller-coaster opened for the season Sunday morning and gave its first riders a real fright -- but for the wrong reason.

The famed wooden Luna Park ride didn’t even make it through its first run, stalling just before one of the ride’s 12 drops.

Photo show revelers walking down the narrow sides of the ride to safety, escorted by park staff.

Oh hell no.  It would take me an hour to walk down.  And there better be a rail that I could cling too, and it would be one step at a time.  I do not like heights.  Especially heights where the floor is very shaky and the wind is also throwing my balance off.  Although it is strange what sets me off, and what I'm fine with.  Having dinner at the top of Stratosphere.  Fine.  Climbing 4 steps on a ladder, not fine.

Same here.  I think the difference for me is the visual "space" underneath me.  If I can see open space, I get very uptight.  Standing on the roof of a two-story house is fine though.  It's disgustingly irrational.

Hahaha! I live in Fontana and drove the same route up Lytle Creek following my GPS route about a year ago.

For the price of the guy with a shovel.  I could get 12 guys with shovels in the parking lot of Home Depot, they would show up by 8 am, and be done by noon.  They would probably also do a better job.

i recently purchased another itunes gift card. i like using them because they're not tied in to my bank account and it helps control how much i spend.

at the time of my purchase, my account had something like sixty-three cents in it, which isn't enough to buy anything. got me to wondering how many people have used those gift cards and left money on them that never gets used. you have to buy another gift card in order to use up the remaining amount, and maybe eventually you'll be lucky enough to zero out your account. but i'm guessing there are literally thousands and thousands of dollars (when all gift card amounts are totaled up) that go unused every year.

pretty good scam, apple.

One of the projects I'm working on has to do with payment processing and gift cards are a huge racket for merchants/businesses. And is essentially free money because of your exact scenario.

You pay for them upfront, but something around 33% go unused...or have leftover money that never gets used. On the other side, people that do use gift cards generally spend more than they are worth.

So you either keep the unused funds (free money) or someone with a $25 Best Buy gift card ends up spending $30-50 in the process of using it.

The Golden Gate Bridge did away with their toll booths a few years ago, and now have a scanner that shoots your license plate and sends you a bill in the mail (if you're not already set up with a Fas Trak account).  I forgot about paying my bill a couple months ago and was sent another bill with a whopping $25 late fee attached.  $25 fricken bucks on a $7 toll?  Seems unreasonable to me.
