So on Saturday my puppy decided to run down the stairs behind me and pretty much tripped me up and took me out.  I ended up in urgent care where the X-rays showed I had a fracture in my left foot.  Yesterday I went to the foot doctor where they took more X-rays and did ultra sound.  They discovered I have two fractures and ligament damage.  I will be on the IR for at least 4 weeks with a boot.  I never knew how much I took my legs or feet for granted.

 

I had to check to make sure this wasn't another Happybat post.

My wife just finished competing for area level in Tostmasters International. It was fun being the only native English speaker watching Filipinos, Indians, and Bahrainis give speeches and evaluations in English. She took second in evaluation and first in International speech so now I get to attend at least one more competition. Yay

I went to Roger's Gardens today.  It's a high end nursery.  It's huge.  There was a presentation on tomato plants, which I did not attend.  The dude giving the talk had a little wrap around microphone.  There were about 20 people in attendance.  Tomatoes.  Who knew?

Went to downtown Las Vegas yesterday and walked around the Fremont Street Experience. It was noon and there were already some characters out there.  There was a guy in nothing but diapers and his ugly old lady with no shirt on and only duct tape on her nipples, yuck. Didn't even stop to read his sign, just plain weird. Saw a guy playing the guitar who was really good. Probably hired by one of the Casinos. Also a ventriloquist who was pretty funny. Looked like they were getting set up for some big concert later that night. Lots of outdoor bars getting set up for the night. I guess this place gets going at night.

 

Straight tourist trap of course with the T-shirt shops. Took my 18 year old son to show him the area. Weather was beautiful and they have really cleaned up the area around there. It used to be a real bad part of town to wander off the main street.

 

They had something called ContainerPpark to the East and it was a cool place to take the kids. Strange that it was right on Fremont Street.

 

I was in the area for business and wanted to look at Fremont since I hadn't been there in years.

Also stopped by Nelson, Nevada on the way home. It's a ghost town between Las Vegas and Laughlin, Nevada off Hwy 95. 11 miles from the Hwy

 

Lot's of old buildings, old cars, trucks and memorabilia to look at. Mine tour and gift shop.

Yeah, downtown isn't that bad a place as it was.  They usually have concerts nightly.  I think they have two stages set up.  While it's still sketchy to go off the path still downtown.  They do have some areas that have been improved.  

 

Container park is one area.  I just wish that path would be better lit, since it gets pretty dark on that side of the street at night.  

 

I also like the path to the mob museum.  There is a beef jerkey store on that path that has everything.  Haven't tried the pizza place or the biker bar yet.  Grand is a nice small casino.  Their rooms are nice for the price.

That has been a major emphasis. Downtown had a really bad reputation, especially if you strayed very far from Fremont Street
