We should also remember Lyman Bostock.  Another young player who was tragically murdered.

For those who are not familiar with his story,

Both players need to be remembered.

I remember hearing this news while in my dorm room at LB St., and being totally at a loss for words.   Lyman had gone from hitting .140 in April, to around .340 from May 1 on.       And he was a class person, taken at waaaay too young of an age (27).

The biggest blessing to me was being able to bless Nick's mom and dad with a cherry wood framed collage of his pictures coming up through the Angels brass, including his brilliant start against the A's.

We presented them to Tim Mead, Wally Joyner's daughter (who was an intern in the PR department), who then gave the memorial pictures to mom and dad.

Brian, Lou, Glen, Adam, Dave, Bruce, Jody and so many others were there that day, under the Big A. Special moment in AW history for me.

Would have been what, 37? Maybe still pitching…after that last start I thought he was breaking through to being something special.

True.  I went to that game with some friends, and it was so shocking when I got the news of what had happened after the game to him.  Someone so young with such a bright future, it was devastating.

I will never forget being at his last start.  I walked the concourse taking pictures of his start.  I had read about how he had watched tape of guys like Greg Maddux and others and that he thought he had figured things out.  He told his dad, he was ready to make an impact.  He pitched well that night and we got a glimpse of what was possible.  The upside was huge.

The next morning when I heard the news, my heart just sank.  The day was sort of a blur.  We had met Nick at Spring Training and he was as nice as can be.  We were looking forward to watching his career.

Like so many others, we went to the stadium to pay our respects. It was surreal.  So many people came to pay their respect.

The days that followed, I watched or read everything and anything about the events and the aftermath.  I so admired Mike Scioscia for the way he guided the team through that season and how he never let Nick's death be about the team - he always made it about focusing on Nick's family.

I especially remember Dustin Moseley at a press conference...

So tragic.  RIP, Nick.

I'm exactly the same age as Nick was as he was born in August of 86 and I was born in September of 86 so this one always hits close to home for me. I remember being 22 as he was and being in disbelief his life was over already. Can't believe it's already been 15 years. Win one for Adenhart tonight Angels as he looks down from above!
