We also have to opportunity of rotating these guys through the DH spot, so the rest isn't a big deal, especially since tomorrow's game is in the same time zone. I'm not sure 3-4 innings is a big deal in terms of energy for tomorrow anyway. The risk of injury is small but still there, so why not have better defensive players in when you're ahead?

Ok, Mike is rotating them through the DH spot. How would you feel if a regular got injured in the 8th inning of a blow out if Mike had a realistic chance of resting them. This team plays virtually no blowouts like this so it's not like he has this opportunity often.
