Chase Headley finally traded.

Recommended Posts

Aside from one very good season Headley has been average to below average the rest of his career.  After the monster season he had in 2012 you would think playing for a contract the last 2 years he would have stepped up but that hasn't been the case.  Seems like 2012 was an aberration and he blew it by not taking the offer San Diego made him.

Much like the Dodgers and Angels, San Diego just needs the right buyer.  They have a hell of a fan base.  Losing teams but dedicated fans in a city that has shown a vibrant willingness to support a winner like the Chargers.  Padres also have one of the top 3 stadiums in all of major league baseball and a sizable radio and TV market.  If they find an owner willing to spend the money, they'll be a large market club.  As it stands their current ownership is fine with making money but not winning.

As we saw with the Dodgers and Angels, in So-Cal, all it takes is an owner willing to invest in a winner.  Everything else can be supported.

part of this isn't true. the reason why san diego is a small market is because of location. we have the ocean to the west, mexico to the south and the desert to the east of us. the only place for san diego to expand is north and that's not happening with the dodgers and angels presence. it would take a super massive population explosion, that honestly san diego would not be prepared to handle for the current media market rankings to change. it's just simply not going to happen.

for what they paid i would really like to have seen us jump in there on this one.

Given the Angels track record on trades with Padres ... we're due  :)

Yankees gave up Y. Solarte........GEEZ if you think Headley's fall was steep at least it was somewhat gradual compared to Solarte who was going great for the Yankees earlier in the season, could play OF, 3B even some 2B (none of them very well, apparently) and was hitting .350 during the first month he was up with the club, even stole some bases -- was sure a stud for the fantasy league stats..........then he tailed off big (must have been the second time through the league stuff) and next thing you know he is shipped out to AAA (where's the Yankee's affiliate? Used to be Rochester) and now he gets dealt as part of the Yankees two month lease of Headley..........
