Richards 8-0 1.27 ERA in last 8 starts

Well.. it depends on how you define "ace." I don't consider Richards an ace since I only consider a select few SP to be true aces. But I do consider him a top-10 starter in baseball based on what he has shown so far. Certainly no insult there.

If he's one of the top ten starters in baseball, and he's put together the year he has so far, I think it's fair to call him an ace.

June 4, 2014. After that horrendous outing in Oakland, Richards shuts down the Stros and becomes the lead dog. Team is 26-10 since. If not for that predictable Ernesto meltdown in Atlanta, he'd be 8-0 since then instead of 7-0.

Update:

Apparently I added a win in the original post, but **** wins miright guys?

Last 12 starts 1.77 ERA 86.2 IP 88 SO  .173 BAA

Just to show how dominating he's been.

hitters are batting just .195 against Richards on the year. That ties him for 2nd place with Kershaw and Felix.

Over the same amount of starts? Felix has been more dominating and that is probably why richard's hot streak doesn't seem all that special.

Felix is definitely having a historically dominating season.

And since richards isn't felix or kershaw, he hasn't been an ace /s

Poozy, how does he compare to King Felix?

Here was a good read on Fangraphs

Basically, Richards has been right on par with Felix when it comes to limiting hard contact. Not only is Richards racking up K's, but hitters have a difficult time squaring any of his pitches up. Dude just doesn't get hurt much when he does give up hits. His 5 HR allowed in 167 IP are no fluke
