I've always wondered, if Beane would as efficient if he had say a Angels payroll.  IMO, I don't think he would be.  Because part of his thinking is necessary with a limited and small budget.  

 

In either case, that guy has some smarts.

I think that it takes a certain approach to team building to be successful in any given franchise. Small market GM's need to be masters in creativity and efficiency. Larger market GM's need to have a grandiose vision of what they can do with their resources without hampering an organization financially.

Personally, I think Dipoto is the perfect type of GM for the Angels. He's built a monster of an offense and a better than expected pitching staff while keeping the yearly budget in tact and rebuilding the minor league system from the bottom up.
