But to be fair, the story dealt only with 2013 statistics.

The death toll has climbed to 16.

 

The violence continued Monday as a 19-year old woman was shot and killed by a man who approached her on a bicycle. Eight others were wounded yesterday.

Some of the victims' stories are heartbreaking. One example from recent weeks: the dedicated special education teacher, who stopped off at a friend's office for a moment to make some copies and was shot in the head by some gang members who happened to get into it outside on the street. This, on a weekday afternoon during rush hour. They just fired wildly and she was the only person killed. The bullet passed through the wall of the building and hit her.
