Yeah, it's like a closer who makes 60 appearances but blows 10 saves. Odds are, the team will still be around 50-10 in his appearances.

.....And Smith has four.  It's the lasting impression of the ball leaving the yard that we probably remember, and the other team celebrating.  And when Frieri saves one it's no big deal, like that's the way it should always go, quiet and subdued.

He's been less of a disaster than it seems.

I might be wrong, but I think a couple of those blown saves, were like blown 1 run leads in the 8th inning, still blown saves technically, but it might why they haven't been as memorable as the 9th inning blown saves. The meltdown against the A's at home that one time comes to mind, which I believe was an 8th inning blown save.

Yeah, there's no reason Smith shouldn't have been the team's closer long ago.

Frieri either has it, or doesn't have it.

When he has it, he'll strike out the side. When he doesn't, at least one HR guaranteed.

it's because he either does fine and gets the job done or he's left out there to absolutely burn. 

 

To me, Ernesto is pretty straight forward.

 

You give him a clean inning and pull him if the tying runner comes to the plate.  He gets no grace.  No leeway.  No slack.

I never said we shouldn't expect that. I was merely commenting that fan emotions run far higher on his failures than his success, because it usually ends with the other team celebrating in our face.
