Rick Sutcliff:

This team's season rests on Josh Hamilton, and..

"If Hamilton was batting behind Trout, this Angel's team would be in 1st place right now"

"Pujols didn't hit with men on last season, and with RISP this season, he is hitting around .150"

Thanks Rick. Go down to the clubhouse and chat with Scioscia about that.

You know it's bad when even sutcliffe knows.

Pujols won't be moved out the 3 spot for another couple years, minimum. Unless he gets hurt, obviously.

LOL at YOU for thinking there is something wrong with what he said.

Okay, lets discuss this.  You really think that moving a hitter one spot in the lineup (especially a player who has played in only 22 games so far) would make a six game difference in the team's record?  First of all you have to factor in how many times that combo would come up in a game, with a chance to impact the final outcome in a different manner.  Some of the 22 games that Hamilton played in the team already won, some were hopelessly lost.  You might get one or two changed outcomes, but six, that's a real stretch.  Yes, what he said was an exaggeration.

So, you're saying sutcliffe is wrong in his assessment that Pujols has completely sucked with RISP since becoming an angel?

I don't know that he commented on Pujols.  According to the original post he just thought Pujols and Hamilton should be switched.  Did he provide an assessment of Pujols in his commentary?  By the way this topic just discussed on AM 830 about 15 minutes ago.

A quick review of the 22 games that Hamilton played in shows that we already won 12.  Of the 10 losses, 7 were decisive for the opponent, and only three were really close. Yes, I believe the Sutcliffe assessment is flawed.

Yes. You need to remember that head to head games with Oakland count as two game swings.

Just two more wins against Oakland is a 4 game difference, and I absolutely believe that with Hamilton and Pujols flip flopped in the lineup, we would have won another 5 games against other teams.

That means first place, easily.

Except that Hamilton has only played three times against Oakland this year.  Two were Angel wins already (June 10th and June 11th), and one loss to Oakland on June 12th (score was 7-1; I don't believe a switched 3/4 position would have produced 7 more runs).  Pujols needs to adjust and become more productive, and Hamilton needs to stay healthy, no matter where they hit.  Neither situation helps the team to produce wins.
